Job Description:

Karara Mining Limited is a joint venture between Gindalbie Metals Limited and AnSteel, one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south-east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid-West. It produces a premium, high-grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.
With an expected mine life of 30+ years, it will underpin a long-term iron ore business and provide sustainable benefits to the regional community we operate. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks.
We have an opportunity for a qualified and experienced Electrical Engineer to join the site based Electrical Maintenance team. The Electrical Engineer's role is to effectively collaborate with the site maintenance and operations teams to provide engineering support to improve the reliability of equipment to meet operational targets. This will require the use of sound engineering practices that comply with all regulatory and statutory requirements. 
To be considered for this role applicants must be able to demonstrate previous experience in electrical fault finding and have a strong technical understanding of fixed plant maintenance & reliability. 
This role operates on an 8 days on 6 days off continuous day shift rotation.
Key responsibilities;
  • Actively demonstrate behaviours in alignment to Karara's Company Values and Life Saving Commitments
  • Promote and contribute to a safe, positive and harmonious workplace environment
  • Demonstrate personal leadership by meeting all Karara safety policy and procedure requirements
  • Engineer solutions to plant reliability issues or develop optimisation opportunities in alignment with relevant Australian standards, regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Utilise the KML Change Management process to develop and implement improvements to equipment
  • Adhere to work priorities provided by maintenance leadership team to ensure critical business needs are addressed in a timely manner
  • Support the business in all high voltage and 415V electrical reticulation equipment and installations
  • Provide support and engineering solutions for: Electrical Protection Relays (ie SEL Relays)
  • Undertake Electrical Design and Projects as required ensuring all work complies with Australian regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Provide technical support to the Maintenance team in relation to Electrical areas
  • Work with all departments to reduce downtime and improve reliability of equipment to meet operational targets
  • Read and interpret electrical schematic and connection diagrams to assist with fault finding activities or develop improvement opportunities
  • Assist in downtime process investigation including root cause analysis to identify corrective actions to eliminate risk of repeat occurrences

Job Requirements:

Key essential requirements;
  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
  • Solid electrical and reliability background
  • Exposure to Mineral Processing which includes HV and LV electrical reticulation and protection systems
  • Experience in the electrical engineering field with several years exposure to reliability engineering and operational plants.
  • Significant experience within the mining or associated industry.
  • Demonstrable success in the development, set up and implementation of plant reliability processes and systems and establishing baseline definitions.
