Do you have direct care experience with working alongside children? Are you looking for a new challenge and opportunity to care for vulnerable children? Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Inc) have an exciting opportunity to be part of a dynamic team of professionals within our Geraldton cottages.
 
Our Out of Home Care (OHC) programme provides a holistic, multi-disciplinary and therapeutic care service for vulnerable children. Our aim, as a team of committed staff, is to bring healing and growth to children’s lives. The Casual Support Worker is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and therapeutic environment for clients residing within the OHC Program across a variety of different residential settings, including Family Group Homes. The role is required to provide direct care to the clients within the service and support their placement goals through adherence to the Individual Therapeutic Care Plan. As a Casual Support Worker, you will work in partnership with Professional Therapeutic Carers in the direct care of children in our Family Group Homes.
 
The Casual Support Worker will support the Professional Therapeutic Carers through a range of activities, including:
 
  • Maintain the physical environment, unit checks, attending to health and medical requirements of children and young people.
  • Provide activities for children or young people in ways that meet their developmental needs; encourage a positive effect on their self-esteem and promote attachment and security,
  • Provide emotional support that assists clients to deal with the challenges of everyday life, inclusive of encouragement and guidance to clients,
  • Assist clients to develop social, problem solving and independent living skills appropriate to their age and developmental level,
  •  
  • Maintain all records in accordance with the programme and Organisation’s processes.
 
The Casual Support Worker will also assist in the implementation of Individual Care Plans for each child and Young person in a supportive and purposeful manner.

Job Requirements:

 
In addition to highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, the following skills and experience are essential:
 
  • Previous direct care experience working alongside children with a trauma history and / or relevant Human Services qualifications,
  • Genuinely demonstrate empathy, guidance, respect and patience at all times,
  • Capacity to maintain the home as a warm, safe, secure and comfortable environment in which children may grow and develop,
  • Experience in providing care appropriate to the emotional and social needs of the children and set behaviour limits which are appropriate and non-punitive,
  • A current Working with Children Card and Provide First Aid Certificate.
 
It is imperative that the successful applicant can work with minimum supervision and be highly self-motivated in this demanding, yet rewarding, role.
