Job Description:

We are seeking a health promotion person to represent and promote Cancer Council WA and our cancer prevention strategies in the MidWest region.

We do this through advocacy, research, prevention programs, and providing people affected by cancer with support. 

Tell me more
As the Regional Education Officer based in Geraldton you will initiate and promote cancer prevention and early detection strategies for the MidWest region and act as a contact and referral point for Cancer Council services.

Your main responsibilities will be:
  • To promote and provide information on cancer prevention and early detection strategies in the community
  • Coordinate special events such as National Skin Cancer Action Week and World No Tobacco day
  • Coordinate professional and public education events on cancer in your region
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the local media, allied health and community organisations in your region
  • Be the media spokesperson for Cancer Council WA in the Midwest region
  • Identify resources and partnerships to support our relevant projects and initiatives
  • Provide monthly reporting on activities carried out over your region
  • In conjunction with the Volunteer Development Manager, recruit and coordinate volunteers in the region
  • Attend and participate in Regional Education Officers meetings as required

Who are you?
To be successful in this role you will have the following key attributes:
  • Tertiary qualification in the health area (eg. health promotion, education, nursing etc.) or 2+ years’ experience in a community development role
  • Knowledge of regional health services and issues
  • Knowledge of cancer control issues
  • Experience working with the media
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking and report writing
  • Proven organisation and time management skills
  • Current C class driver’s licence
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the values of Cancer Council WA
  • Have a positive approach to the workplace
  • Actively foster the development of a culture consistent with the values of Cancer Council WA.

This position is full time and entails travel within the Midwest Region. Consideration will be given to part time requests (minimum 22.5 hours/week).
