Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist who is looking for a new challenge? Parkerville Children and Youth Care (Inc) has an exciting new opportunity to be part of a dynamic team of professionals within our Geraldton service.
 
Our Geraldton team are currently seeking an Occupational Therapist to work in Early Intervention and Prevention with children aged 0-18 years, playing a key role within the Foster Care and Family Group Homes, as well as the wider community. Our Out of Home Care team specialises in early childhood development and trauma, where you will have the opportunity to facilitate parenting programs and workshops to assist in empowering parents and caregivers in guiding their child’s age-appropriate development. 
 
We currently have Geraldton service who will work independently, whilst also being a part of a dynamic and multidisciplinary team committed to doing challenging but rewarding work. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children and their families and have access to numerous ongoing professional development opportunities. 
 
The Occupational Therapist will support the Out of Home Care team by engaging in several activities, such as: 
 

• Provide occupational therapy group intervention services and consultation to community playgroups to support age-appropriate child development,
• Coordinate and run professional development workshops for the community and support the children within our Out of Home Care programme,
• Provide comprehensive assessment of the children and young people that access the service,
• Provide education and consultation to case managers, caregivers and other professional support staff regarding appropriate therapeutic strategies,
• Liaise and collaborate with agencies, schools, organisations, departments, individuals, and families as required for the effective operation of the service.

In addition to highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, the successful applicant will display the following skills and experience: 
 

• Formal qualifications in Occupational Therapy, and registration with the applicable board,
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills which include a high standard in report writing,
• Knowledge of assessment and intervention strategies in regard to at risk and traumatised children and youth,
• Excellent self-management skills and ability to work with a significant degree of autonomy in a team environment,
• A “C” class driver’s license,
• Willingness to comply with Parkerville Children and Youth Care workplace policies such as Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
